Pinecar Derby
Build and decorate a pinecar derby car, then show it off to attendees to vote for Best Dressed car, then race to see who’s car is the fastest!
Rules:
- Cars MUST be constructed on site
- Accessories and decorations can be made before the event
- Each build team may have up to 3 members
- All cars must have a name
- All cars must have an even number of wheels
- Maximum length – 7 inches
- Maximum width – 2 3/4 inches
- Minimum space between wheels – 1 1/2 inches
- Minimum space under body – 3/4 inches
- Maximum weight – 6 ounces
- The car must not ride on any kind of spring
- The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices
- All cars must abide by the MAGStock dress code
- At submission, dimensions and sizes will be checked and all cars will be set up in the Hub for attendees to vote for the best decorated.

All cars must be submitted to the Craft Barn by 2PM Saturday for Best Dressed contest - Race
Racers must be present at the Main Stage by at 5PM Saturday for the race
FAQ:
- Can I enter the car I used for another pinecar derby?
- No. All cars must be built at the event. Minor decorative parts of the car can be made/purchased outside the event, but the main body of the car must be built and assembled at the event
- Do I have to buy a kit?
- The Craft Barn will have FREE kits including a body, 2 axles, and 4 wheels
- You can bring your own kit if you like. If you bring your own kit, make sure you have enough wheels and axles.
- All kits must be “Raw” when you arrive at the event
- Can I use weights or lubricant to improve the performance of my car?
- Yes! As long as the car meets the required dimensions and weight, you can use whatever you want to improve your car’s performance.
- MAGStock will provide weights and graphite powder
- Do I have to work on my car in the Craft Barn?
- You can work on your car anywhere at MAGStock. We know it can be relaxing to sand around the fire. Make sure you’re safe and working with sufficient light when you’re working on your car!
- Do I need to wear safety gear while working on my car?
- MAGStock provides Safety Glasses, Work Gloves, and N95 Masks in the Craft Barn
- Safety Glasses and Work Gloves are REQUIRED when using ANY woodworking tool other than a hand saw, rasp, scissors or sandpaper.
- Safety Glasses and Work Gloves are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED when using any other woodworking tools.
- Use of any wood carving or cutting tools, or any power tools while intoxicated is NOT ALLOWED.
- IF YOU ARE HURT
- A first-aid kit is located at the front entrance of the Craft Barn
- If you are hurt, notify a Craft Barn Volunteer (In a RED APRON) as soon as possible
- The First Aid cabin is located in Cabin 5/6
- Go out the front door of the barn and go RIGHT. It is the THIRD cabin.
- Respect ALL requests from MAGStock volunteers to wear additional safety equipment or take a break from building.
- What tools does MAGStock provide for building my car?
- MAGStock provides coping saws, wood rasps, rotary tools, hand-drills, clamps, and various grades of sandpaper.
- Can I bring my own tools to build my car?
- Yes! You’re free to bring whatever tools you want to make your dream car.
- If you do not want others to use your tools, take them with you when you leave the Craft Barn.
- Get explicit permission from a tool’s owner before borrowing it. Just because they let someone else borrow it, does not mean it’s available for anyone to borrow.
- What can I use to decorate my car?
- In the Craft Barn we have acrylic paint, duct tape, beads, yarn, various kinds of glue, and probably a bunch of other stuff.
- You can use anything else you find around the campground – Take a look at the Trinket Trade to get come cool stuff!
