Bridge Building Contest

Build a bridge using popsicle sticks and white or hot glue which will support the highest weight! Decorate your bridge to be voted the Best Dressed bridge by attendees!

Bridge construction can start as soon as you get to Ramblewood. Give the glue plenty of time to dry!

Construction

  • Bridge Structure must be constructed with a maximum of 100 popsicle sticks and white or hot glue (Provided by MAGStock)
  • Popsicle Sticks may have a maximum of ½ of their length glue to other sticks
  • Minimum length: 18”
  • Maximum Length: 24”
  • Minimum Width: 4”
  • Maximum Width: 6”
  • Maximum Height: 10”
  • No parts of the bridge may be below the lower supports – see diagram below for illegal area
  • Markers or Colored Pencils may be used to decorate the bridge. Paint is NOT allowed.
  • Decorations may be attached to the bridge using white glue. Decorations may ONLY be attached to a SINGLE popsicle stick.
    • Example – A flag made with a toothpick may be attached to the center of one stick. It may NOT be attached across multiple sticks.
    • Example – A plastic cow may have any number of legs glued to a single stick. The cow can NOT have different legs attached to adjoining sticks.

Strength Contest

  • Bridges will be weighed prior to the contest.
  • Bridge will be placed on the top supports of the testing stand
  • A block of wood 7 inches long will be placed on the deck or top of the bridge from which  (depending on the design)
    • Option 1: Hooks hang off side
    • Option 1a: Single center
    • Option 1b:  2 offset
    • Hook hangs down from center – hung through center of block
  • Weight will be applied to pull the bridge down. The bridge that has the greatest weight to strength ratio wins!
