Build a spaceship to protect your egg-stronaut as they crash down to a strange planet! Decorate your spaceship to be voted the Best Dressed Spaceship by attendees!
Construction
- Individuals or teams will be given one raw egg and asked to build a container to hold the egg and prevent it from breaking when it is dropped
- Egg used in the spaceship must be the egg provided for the event
- Spaceships must be built on-site, during MAGstock 2026. They can be built during the spaceship building workshop, but it is not required
- Allowable materials include:
- Cardboard/paper/tissue paper…
- Bubble wrap
- Balloons
- Straws
- Fabric
- Fluff/stuffing (polyfill, wool, cotton wool…)
- Plastic sheet (i.e. trash bags…)
- Springs
- Any tape (scotch, duct, gaff, electrical…)
- Glue (hot glue, white glue, super glue…)
- String, yarn, thread…
- Rubber bands
- Wood
- Small pieces of metal
- Paint
- Spaceship must not contain any of the following materials:
- glass
- large pieces of metal (large enough to pose safety concerns when dropped)
- electrical components
- fire
- compressed gas
- chemical reactions
- anything judged to be a safety hazard when dropped
- Maximum dimensions: 3’x3’x3’
- Maximum weight: less than 5 lbs
- Must be able to be opened (possibly destructively) after drop to check egg status
- All spaceships must abide by the MAGStock dress code
Drop Contest
- Spaceships will be weighed and measured prior to the contest
- Spaceships will be dropped from a height of one story, on to a concrete surface
- The entire craft will be held at or above the standard drop height when dropped
- After drop, spaceships will be opened to check on the status of the egg inside
- Lightest spaceship with uncracked egg wins
Best Dressed Contest
- All spaceships must be presented at the drop site 1 hour before the drop contest begins to allow time for voting
- MAGstock attendees will vote on which spaceship will receive the Best Dressed award
