Open on a garden. The plants are healthy.

THE SPIRIT OF THE WOOD: Thank you, brave hero. Because of your actions, I am finally whole. The cycle of destruction and renewal will begin again. I was naive to think this land could be freed of the Ramble when I am this land and the Ramble is me. I cannot keep the forest safe, I cannot keep it anything. But because of you, I can ensure that it will always grow anew. As is our nature. Thank you.

Post credits scene: the Caretaker body lies in the grass where she fell. Slowly, the vines that cover her recede. She wakes. She sits up, looks around, and smiles.

Open on a blank screen the color of parchment or sandstone.

Text: 100 YEARS AGO

Fade in on a garden. A woman, the Caretaker, checks on each of the plants. They are thriving. She puts the flame up to a vine, but the flame has no effect. When she gets to one plant, she pauses. Vines have grown over the plant, smothering it.

A sound like a bell, and then a voice.

THE VOICE: Young Caretaker, I implore you, if you truly care about this land, you must stop the Ramble from taking hold. It is its nature to grow and spread until it chokes the very ground itself. Please. Do not repeat my mistakes.

The voice is gone. The Caretaker looks at the vine.

THE CARETAKER: The Ramble?

Fade out.

A VOICE: What happened here?
